In many cases the version of your browser or the type of web browser you use will not effect the web pages you visit (especially if the web site has been built and optimised correctly!).
It is however benefitial to stay up-to-date with the latest browsers to ensure your 'web experience' is as good as possible. There are a lot of websites that will have been optimised to be viewed in the latest browser or built using the latest W3C Standards and there are a multitude of aspects to web browsers which could show a web page incorrectly (and in extreme circamstances not at all!).
